1. What is Reading?

Reading is a multifaceted process involving word recognition, comprehension, fluency, and motivation. Skillful reading is reading for specific information for a better learning experience in a short span of time.

2. What are the Benefits of effective Reading?

Followings are the benefits of effective reading:

1. It provide Comprehensive input.

2. It can enhance your general ability to use other language.

3. it can enhance your vocabulary.

4. It helps you keep your mind focused.

5. It can make you enable to extract useful information.

6. It can help to consolidate both previously learned language and knowledge.

7. It helps in Building confidence  in reading.

8. It gives you pleasure and relaxation as books are best an most reliable friends.

9.It can develop various skills like critical thinking, evaluation of the text etc.

3. What are the speed of reading as per the reader?

4. what are the factors of improving reading speed?

There are the three main factors involved in improving reading speed:

1. The Desire to improve

2. Conscious efforts in using newly acquired techniques.

3.  A motivation to practice.

5. Describe the four basic steps of effective reading.

1. figure out the purpose of reading a particular text.

2. Spot the parts of the text relevant to the identified

3. Choose the appropriate reading strategy that suits your purpose.

4. Test or assess your comprehension during reading and also when the reading task is completed.

6. state the barriers of effective e Reading?

Following are the barriers of effective e Reading:

  • Lack of concentration
  • Eye Fixation
  • Reading aloud or Turning the head from side to side
  • Indiscriminate Use of the Dictionary.
7. Describe the various types of reading.

The following are the types of Reading Skills:

1. Skimming

A quick reading to gather the important information or 'gist' from the document or novel is known as Skimming. Ex. Reading of News Paper.

2. Scanning

Scanning is used to find a particular piece of information. In this type of reading. you  allow your eye to run over the text, looking for the specific piece of information that you need. Ex. reading a meeting plans, Specific content of Books and Newspaper.

3. Extensive Reading

Extensive Reading used to obtain a general un understanding of a subject. Including reading of longer texts for pleasures. Ex. Reading of Business Reports, Reading novel before going to bed.

4. Intensive Reading

Intensive Reading is used on shorter texts in order to extract detailed information. It includes very close and accurate reading for details. Ex. Understanding various concepts and theories

8. Define the Methods of Reading.

There are several methods of Reading, with different rates, material and purposes

Sub vocalized  Reading                                       

Combine sight reading with internal sounding of the word as if spoken.

Speed reading                                                   

Method of increasing reading speed

Photo Reading                                                       

Different than 'regular reading' or ' speed reading' . Its  a process of understanding the information than to read it.

Proofreading                                                          

Reading to find out typological error.

Structure- Proposition- evaluation (SPE)            

Mortimer Adler popularized this method in his book How to Read a Book  and give three phases:

 1. For the structure of the work, 

2. for the logical proposition or progression made, and 

3. for evaluation of the merits of the arguments and conclusion.

Survey-Question-Read-Recite-Review (SQ3R)    

 A Method involving immaculate and perfect reading. in this method the reader absorbs the information and uses it without having refer to notes or the book again.

Multiple intelligence -based method  

This method draws upon the reader's diverse ways of thinking and knowing to enrich her/his appreciation of the text. Reading is fundamentally a linguistic activity and readers intelligence will play an important role.
