Idioms:

1.      By the skin of your teeth: just barely get by or make it.

2.      Cry wolf: ask for help when you don’t need it.

3.      Draw the line: be out of place.

4.      Easier said than done: not as easy as it appear to be.

5.      Finding a needle in a haystack: virtually impossible to find.

6.      Fish out of water: admit something you have done wrong.

7.      Get something off your chest: put an end to something.

8.      Go down in flames: fail suddenly and separately.

9.      Go the extra mile: make extra efforts.

10.  Hang in there:  be patient.

11.  Make it a point: to take particular care to do something.

12.  Have done with you: to deal with and finish the whole matter.

 

Examples:

1.      By the skin of your teeth: He passed the exam by the skin of his teeth, scoring just one point above the passing grade.

 

2.      Cry wolf: Don't cry wolf unless it's a real emergency; people won't believe you if you make false alarms.

 

3.      Draw the line: I don't mind helping with homework, but when it comes to doing your entire project, I have to draw the line.

 

4.      Easier said than done: Saying you'll clean your room is easy, but actually doing it is easier said than done.

 

5.      Finding a needle in a haystack: Trying to find a specific book in that messy library is like finding a needle in a haystack.

 

6.      Fish out of water: At the fancy gala, John felt like a fish out of water because he had never been to such an upscale event before.

 

7.      Get something off your chest: Sarah needed to get something off her chest, so she told her friend about the argument she had with her sister.

 

8.      Go down in flames: The new business venture went down in flames when they couldn't secure the necessary funding.

 

9.      Go the extra mile: The employee always goes the extra mile by working late to ensure projects are completed on time.

 

10.  Hang in there: When things get tough, remember to hang in there and stay committed to your goals.

 

11.  Make it a point: She always makes it a point to call her parents every Sunday to catch up.

 

12.  Have done with you: After the heated argument, she decided she had done with her unreliable friend and wanted to end the friendship.
