Hold up:

Meaning: To delay or obstruct something or someone.

Sentence: The traffic accident held up our journey for over an hour.

 

Plod:

Meaning: To walk or move slowly and heavily, often with little enthusiasm.

Sentence: After a long day at work, he plodded home, tired and exhausted.

 

Bankrupt:

Meaning: Having no money or resources to pay one's debts; financially ruined.

Sentence: The company went bankrupt, leaving many employees without jobs.

 

Dash out:

Meaning: To leave or exit quickly and suddenly, often in a hurry.

Sentence: He had to dash out of the meeting to catch his flight.

 

Rapidity:

Meaning: The quality of being fast or swift; quickness.

Sentence: The rapidity with which she completed the task was impressive.

 

Barrow:

Meaning: A type of cart or wheelbarrow used for carrying goods or materials.

Sentence: The farmer used a barrow to transport hay from the barn to the field.

 

Imminent:

Meaning: About to happen or occur very soon.

Sentence: The storm clouds made it clear that rain was imminent.

 

Farsighted:

Meaning: Having the ability to see things clearly at a distance; also refers to the ability to plan for the future.

Sentence: His farsighted vision allowed him to spot the distant mountain peak.

 

Aggravated:

Meaning: Made worse or more severe; irritated or annoyed.

Sentence: His constant complaints aggravated the situation and made everyone tense.

 

Refuse:

Meaning: To decline or say no to something; to reject or not accept.

Sentence: She had to refuse the job offer because it required relocating to another city.

 

Clutter:

Meaning: A messy and disorganized collection of things that are untidy and in the way.

Sentence: The clutter in the garage made it difficult to find anything.

 

Smote:

Meaning: Past tense of "smite," which means to strike or hit forcefully, often with a sense of great damage or destruction.

Sentence: The mighty warrior smote his enemy with a single blow from his sword.
