Stimulus–Response (S–R) Model of Communication
The Stimulus–Response (S–R) Model is one of the earliest communication models based on behavioral psychology. It explains communication as a simple, direct process in which a stimulus (message) produces a response (reaction) from the receiver.
The model assumes that when a person receives a stimulus, they respond in a predictable manner.

Components of the S–R Model
1. Stimulus (S)
The stimulus is the message, signal, or event that initiates communication.
Examples:
- A teacher asks a question.
- A traffic light turns red.
- A fire alarm rings.
- An advertisement is displayed.
2. Receiver (Organism)
The receiver perceives and interprets the stimulus.
Examples:
- Student
- Driver
- Consumer
- Audience
3. Response (R)
The response is the action or reaction produced by the receiver.
Examples:
- Student answers the question.
- Driver stops the vehicle.
- Customer buys the product.
- Audience applauds.
